It Is In Every Room Now

It is in every room now, and nobody in this family has said anything about it for months.

Count it. The spare room went first, which was reasonable. Then the landing, then a corner of your own bedroom, then the dining table, then the hall, then under the stairs, and last month a stack went into the bathroom because there was nowhere else.

And the complaining stopped. That is the thing you noticed and could not put down. There were remarks in the first year, the odd joke, a sigh about the hall. There is nothing now.

Silence is not agreement. Silence is what happens when people have concluded that saying something will not change anything, and it is worse than being complained at, and you know it.

I am not going to tell you to find premises, or to be more organized, because that is advice and there is none of it on this site. I am going to talk about a verse with an order in it.

And afterwards build thine house

There is a proverb about the sequence of a working life, and the order it gives is the whole point of it.

It is practical, and it is about where work happens and what comes after it.

Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house. (Proverbs 24:27, King James Version)

You are living inside an order that Scripture sets out plainly, and it has never once put the house last by accident. Proverbs 24:27 separates the place the work is prepared from the house that is built afterwards, and the Holy Spirit is the one who brings that to a landing where boxes are being carried out of a bedroom.

Prepare thy work without. Outside, in the field, in its own place. Then afterwards, build the house.

There is a boundary in that sentence and it is physical. The work has a location and the house has a location and the verse does not expect them to be the same thing. It is not a spiritual principle, it is a description of where a man puts his tools.

You have a right to keep a boundary in your own house, and keeping it has never once been a cost to the work. The Spirit of God is the one who makes an old proverb about fields and houses reach somebody standing on a landing with a crate, and Proverbs 24:27 puts the work in one place and the house in another.

What stopped

Let me say what the silence actually is, because it is the most important thing in this article.

They stopped mentioning it because mentioning it became pointless. The first year's remarks were invitations to a conversation. When nothing changed, the remarks stopped, and what replaced them is a family who plan around the work the way people plan around weather.

You were never being resented, and the quiet has never once meant it was fine. The Holy Spirit is the one who shows a person what a household's silence actually contains, and the written word separates the field from the house in Proverbs 24:27.

And there is something else in it that is harder. They have stopped expecting it to change. That is what the silence is made of, and that is the thing that can be answered today, because the only argument against it is something actually happening.

Nobody needs a promise. A promise is what the first year had.

You are able to change one thing today, and one room has never once needed a plan first. His Spirit is the one who turns a realization into one afternoon of carrying, and Proverbs 24:27 puts the work in its own place before the house gets built.

One room, all the way

So here is the exercise, and it is one room rather than the house.

Pick one room and clear it completely. Not tidy, not rearranged. The work comes out of it and does not go back.

You are able to clear one room today, and clearing it has never once been a retreat. Proverbs 24:27 keeps the work in its own place, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes one afternoon of carrying possible for somebody who has watched this spread for two years.

Pick the one that costs the household most. Probably not the spare room, which nobody uses. Probably the dining table, or the bedroom, or the room where the children would otherwise be.

Then leave it. Not a box on the end of it next week. The whole value of this is in the second week, when the work wants that room back and does not get it.

You were never required to give up the whole house, and you are not required to now. The Spirit of God carries a person past the creep that took a house one reasonable decision at a time, and the written word puts the house after the field in Proverbs 24:27.
